IWS designs and manufactures the LIQUAREX (tm) range of decentralised Water and Wastewater Treatment Systems

Wastewater Treatment

The wastewater treatment plant was fabricated in New Plymouth over a two-month period from mid November 2001 and delivered to Port Littleton in mid January 2002 for shipment to Scott Base, Antarctica.

The treatment plant is housed in two "high cube" ISO20 containers.

The first (treatment container) is a stainless steel partitioned tank welded into a coloured steel frame. The chambers formed by the partitions contain the media and form the aerated fixed media chambers.

The second (service container) houses plant equipment including the blower station, control panel, UV-disinfection , sludge dewatering centrifuge, and solids handling equipment. This container has two entrances, via a cold porch equipped with washing facilities and a ladder leading upstairs to a roof space, and another used for solids removal and as a fire exit.

The two containers have a roof space above them allowing easy access to a treatment zone, which is necessary for inspection, maintenance and repairs.
